L32: (4) Josh Milton WR 418 v (Q) Lu Yang (CHN) WR 1496
Josh will have to smash a fair bit of China to reach the semis here - the other players in his quarter (and indeed all the other unseeded players in his half too) are Chinese.

He couldn't manage it in the doubles with a Kiwi partner, but they were up against it a bit:
R1: Josh Milton & Matt Simpson (NZL) WR 2347 lost to (4) Xin Gao & Zhe Li (CHN/CHN) WR 1190 by 0 & 1
L16: (4) Josh Milton WR 418 beat Li Yu Cheng (CHN) WR 869 by 6-2 4-6 6-4
QF: (4) Josh Milton WR 418 v (7) Wu, Di WR 495
Sounds rather closer than one would hope but a win is a win.
Yes, he's not exactly pulverising players ranked hundreds of places below him, but that's an improvement on losing the 1st set to someone outside the top 1000 (as in R1) and takes him into his first QF since early February.
He has met Wu once before, in the China F1 Final last year. Wu won 2-6 7-5 6-3, taking him to WR 349, which remains his career high.

Not a big surprise that Wu beat Josh again (who at least got back to back wins this week ... baby steps back towards some form, as it were!), but definitely an odd scoreline. In fact, Josh won the first game in both the 2nd and 3rd sets only to lose the next 6 in each case.
