Morgan took van der Duim to 3 sets in R2 for the second week running, but was unable to complete the win this time. An excellent win for Dan though to reach his 5th QF of the year ...

L16: Morgan Phillips WR 484 lost to (8) Antal van der Duim (NED) WR 351 by 2-6 6-4 7-5
L16: Dan Smethurst WR 409 beat (2) Marek Michalicka (CZE) WR 301 by 2 & 5 biggrin

QF: Dan Smethurst WR 409 v (7) Claudio Grassi (ITA) WR 349 (CH 300 last Aug)

H2H 1-0 - Dan thrashed Grassi 1 & 1 on his way to the title in Eilat. Something tells me it might be a bit harder to beat him on Italian clay, but it's a good memory to take into the match!

Sadly, Grassi seems to be a bit more at home on Italian red clay:

QF: Dan Smethurst WR 409 lost to (7) Claudio Grassi (ITA) WR 349 (CH 300 last Aug) by 5 & 1
