But JJ immediately breaks again to 30 in the seventh game, likewise Laura in the eighth:  *4-4.  Can she hang on to her own service this time?

Laura playing far better in the second set. Seems that she's relaxed a bit and making far fewer errors.

My summary for what it is worth:

Started OK could have won first two games, then really struggled before an out of sorts JJ let her back in and Laura had a point for 5-5 in first set.
Second set much better from Laura, serving still a problem though although she did hit a 114mph ace which is her fastest ever recorded serve.
Probably deserved more from the TB, but lost too many points when she was ahead in the rallies.
Movement and defence a bit better, ball toss better too, but needs to be more aggressive on her first serve.
Probably played up to her ranking which means it was a solid effort overall, also noticed that Luke Milligan wasn't there with Sven G providing all the coaching assistance.

A point here and there - especially in the second set - could have made so much difference. If Laura could have won just some of them, it could have been a very different outcome. Jelena definitely looked beatable, so a shame that Laura wasn't able to cut down the errors and get a big win.

Thought JoKo played OK, but at this level all your weaknesses come to the surface. Wasn't able to put the final ball away on too many occasions, having worked the opening. Martic was able to make her hit one more ball, but still plenty of positives and I'll stand by earlier prediction that top 150 by the end of the year barring injuries is a very realistic target.

'Twas a horrible match to watch. So much so that I went for a run after the first set and a half. Jankovic was there for the taking today. I won't be surprised to see her exiting the tournie before she reaches her seeding.

Although the tb appears to have been exciting.

You should have stayed for the second part of the second set, when Laura was in fact marginally the better player. She began to win the longer rallies without risking too much. I don't think she would have won the third set, because I felt she was just starting to flag physically during the TB.

Laura is still so hugely temperamental, blinding shots mixed in with UEs. She played some great tennis in the 2nd and looked very close to getting it together and taking the second, but unfortunately didnt quite get there. Im not really sure what to say, other than she seems to be exactly the same player she has been for the last few years, only now Im far less assured that she will get it together and start winning big.

I would say that her movement and fitness looks better (shes in great shape) but still looks sulky and not able to manage her own game properly.

I think losing Bok as her coach was a big loss about 18 months ago, the two were a great partnership. I still don't think she's far off when everything clicks, just got to be patient.
