The second set also went to a tie-break and went the same way as the first - 7-5, although EWS was 6-1 down at one stage.

Convincing win for Jo given the fact Kiki beat her in 3 in bath last month. Gutted for Em but 1/9 break points won says a lot. Though she has had injuries/ iffy form lately so a sign she's slowly coming back. Really wish she could have sustained her form of 12 months ago when she reached the 50k Gifu final. Em's a battler so you know she will give it her all.

In a sidenote, I'm always confused by the timing of this event. It's been held since it's conception 3 years ago at 3 different times of the year, none of which really work. Maybe they should move it to the autumn alongside Linz, Luxembourg and Moscow? Unless to conflicts with an event in Copenhagen at that time or maybe they think wozniacki won't play then??

Yes, it's a tournament which is very difficult to schedule sensibly, and they haven't found a good solution yet. The problem with the autumn is that the European indoor season has been curtailed to just 2 weeks, to protect the off-season.  There isn't currently space for it there because of the final Asian tournament (Osaka), given the desire to have no more than 2 WTA tournaments in a week. I guess it will only find a good slot when an existing tournament stops or presses for a date change.

JoKo second on court today following M'Lady, who started a few minutes ago
