RE: Week 13 - Challenger ($100,000+H) - Le Gosier, Guadeloupe (hard)

But as Alex had won the 1st set, a new Career best win Replaces Taylor Dent (WR102)

Definitely - and unless something very sudden happened, I imagine Lu wouldn't have retired had Alex not toughed out that tiebreak. Really well done to him!

I've got to say Alex is having a rather fortuitous week. In as a Lucky loser, through the first round by retirement. Long may it continue!

All qualifiers/LL have gone through so far, maybe the other players are having trouble adjusting to the court.

Not quite:  Duclos lost to James Blake (3/WC) & Bubka lost to Paire (8). wink

Well done, Alex.

Round-up:

L32: (Q) Dan Evans WR 291 beat Arnaud Clément (FRA) WR 153 (CH 10 in 2001) by 4 & 4 biggrin
L32: (LL) Alex Ward WR 341 beat (2) Lu Yen-Hsun (TPE) WR 59 (CH 33 in 2010) by 7-6(8) ret. biggrin

L16: (Q) Dan Evans WR 291 v (4) Édouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA) WR 89 (CH 82 in 2007)
L16: (LL) Alex Ward WR 341 v David Goffin (BEL) WR 148 (= CH)

ERV beat James in the Miami FQR of course ... and we know from DC how much Dan likes avenging Wardy's recent defeats wink

Goffin qualified for Miami and beat Donald Young in R1 before losing to Almagro in R2.

Both Brits still haven't covered the points added at the end of Miami last year and Alex is actually ahead of Evo at the moment. In addition, they both need a R2 win to overtake Boggo who started Miami in between them (Evo was GB 5, A Ward GB 7) but is provisionally GB no. 5 on Monday as things stand.

I never like to see any player have to retire (even playing against a Brit) but well done to Alex. Big win for him however it was achieved.

Alex seems to be making a bit more of a fight of it in the second set: (3-2*), but it's beginning to look like curtains for Evo (1-4*).

Evo's a lost cause (losing by 3 & 2) & I hate to tempt fate, but Alex broke to love in the eighth game of the second set & is serving for it at 5-3...
