I can't see any point in Andy playing until we have another player capable of consistently winning matches against the likes of most of the teams in this group. Admittedly Belgium, with two players ranked between 50-70 are not the norm, but if we can't win matches at this level (except hopefully for the doubles) what chance would we have against the sort of teams we would meet after promotion?
We don't have to win every tie 5-0. With Andy and the doubles we would be favourites or at least very competitive in 3 out of the 5 rubbers, giving us every chance to win the tie. No one would really have expected Evo or Goodall to really win a set yesterday, and Evo very nearly won 2 sets. Who's to say that given more opportunities under no pressure they wouldn't raise their game and maybe cause an upset.
It seems a very defeatist attitude to say we can't win so there's no point in trying. I'm sure there are better examples but it's like Adebayor saying 'Togo are never going to win the World Cup or Cup of Nations or even reach the later stages, so what's the point of even playing?' There are other reasons for not playing, and I think singles commitments should come first but to say he shouldn't play because the other players aren't good enough seems silly.

Too many defeats can break a player's confidence, though. (Boggo perhaps? Beaten always by players much higher ranked, but beaten)I would rather we stayed at this level where we can win SOME matches, than get promoted with the help of Andy, and then perhaps he could be unable to play and without him we would just be obliterated. I don't see that could do anybody any good.
