The crux of it is that they are so driven to provide at grass roots that when u get to my age and are actually in the game because u love it and want to make a living out of it, and thus far somehow i have managed to do that on a shoe string budget, they dont give you the money. I understand they say exceptions cant be made, but if that was the case then why are there players at the ntc and other not, because form is temporary so if they were going by that rule then people would be in an out of the NTC every other week. But yet they keep the ones they have funded through juniors and not completely disregard players of my calibre but leave it up to them to win there own money and bonuses. Which is all well and good and breed a good mentality. But for me who is fed up of winning the wrong matches in british tours but cant afford to get to futures reguarly to get the points and bonus money, how am i supposed to advance.
I know leon and paul well and have said this to them many times but they both have alot on there plate all the time. I always tell them straight exactly what i think as i think alot of what they are doing is right, but for players at my level i dont feel there is the support there should be, i mean we are one of the richest federations in tennis and if we want players around top 100 mark in numbers we have to fund them to get there, not take punts on 15 year olds who dont even know if they really want to choose a career in tennis. Give the money to players around 500-700 who are showing potential and help them push on to the 200-300's. No doubt if i got there off my own skin the lta would be all over me like a rash and try to make it impossible for me not to take what they were offering me.
the atmos at the ntc is normally dead and hardly anyone there, its up to the players to create that. I havent been there for weeks at a time just in and out but it doesnt seem the best of places. id say the ntc is massively wasted because they only allow a select few access the multi million pound facilities.
hope this answers some of the questions and gives you some insight to where i think things are going wrong, i mean im no rocket scientist i think what ive said above makes massive sense.
Yeah its a tricky one. I mean obviously 15 year olds need the support, as the potential is there to be tapped, but should we really give up on our 21-25 year olds so quickly? I don't fully understand the funding system but how can they not support someone who has seen his ranking rise from outside the top 1000 to almost inside the top 600? Also do players such as Willis, Cox and Eaton still get funding, because if they do then there is a clear flaw in the system.
It seems strange to say but the day of having Delgado, Palmer, Lee, McClagen all vying around the top 200 mark seem almost like a golden age.
B****y Hell, Fitzy, you did it in two! Am usually the kiss of death, so am pleasantly shocked! Best of all, you know you can win it, so go and make this board as proud as punch!!Absolutely chuffed for you, mate. Big up for tomorrow! You deserve it!
PS Am still superstitious enough not to bet on your winning but.....am sorely tempted. Very unusual for a tight Yorkshireman

Searching for tennis courts. I reckon there's about 1 court per 25,000 people in our wonderful borough :(
I've discovered this website too late in the game in respect to Fitzy's history. Can anyone tell me why he has never been funded by the lta? Was he not a top junior? I know he is on the 'late bloomer' career path but I'm sure he must have shown some promise even when he was younger. In any case, the fact that he has gotten to where he's at on his own merits is outstanding and now that it seems he is about to really take off it would be foolish of the lta not to give him any kind of funding. He is out there getting the results and he will probably be the top 15 in the UK very very soon and he's only 22. I say throw some money at him and let's see if he can develop into a top player.
