Week 12 - Challenger ($35,000+H) - Rimouski, Canada - Hard

Both Brits have drawn seeds in R1:

L32: Alex Bogdanovic WR 343 v (6) Maxime Authom (BEL) WR 212 (CH 198 last month)
L32: Alex Ward WR 348 v (8) Stéphane Bohli (SUI) WR 221 (CH 113 in 2010)

Authom was the player who beat James Ward 1 & 2 in Indian Wells Q.

Bohli is on a 6-match losing streak which started with his FQR loss to Evo in Zagreb.

It doesn't appear that they will be streaming. All the matches are listed for live-scoring but no streaming.

Alex lost the first 5 games against Bohli (not a great day for Wards in N America so far! ) but has just got on the board. 1-5*

Or not, Boggo gets a brace of bps, misses them which signals the start.of a collapse as he loses 5 games in a row to go down 16 in the opener

I'm afraid it's not looking like it at the moment lost the first set with only 1 game to his name! -  1-6 down. lets hope for better luck in the second set.

I know he was playing a seed, but one outside the top 200 and a 1 & 2 defeat is a bit of a shocker.

I think that means 4 Brits have suffered 6-1 6-x defeats in Challenger R1 matches today.

Where to now for Bagdanovic?  Where is his funding coming form at the moment?  Its not from tournament winnings, that's for sure. I'd love to see him turn things around, but somehow I'd be suprised.

Is he still going to be playing in a year's time?

i wouldnt overreact to this result, it was less than ideal condtions as Alex's connecting flight was delayed and he didn't have much time to preapre and adjust etc. Perhaps he would have been better staying in bath and going through the Q draw, but he's made a challener MD here so it hard to say for sure what the right decision would have been. Hindsight is wonderful on these things smile

He's been working hard off the court actually, he's much stronger and fitter than he has ever been, it's just a shame we haven't seen the results on the court yet and perhaps he is lacking some match confidence. hopefully he can get a run going at a challenger which may help in that regard.

I think it probably did make sense to go to Rimouski, even if it didn't work out well, especially if he's about to be playing the US circuit again for a while. If he hadn't had problems getting there and/or hadn't drawn a seed in R1, he might have played himself in and then who knows what might have happened.

Good to hear he's been working hard off the court - it's always hard to tell exactly when it will translate into results and ranking points, but hearing that makes me more confident it will.

Even though Boggo hasn't been racking up that many points recently, Akhenaten's last ranking list suggested he is still playing at a higher level than most of the Brits who are picking up points in Futures. In the end, the Challenger tour is very tough, but if you just play Futures, you're never going to get into the top 200 let alone the top 100.
