And thanks must be said to whoever sorted out the streaming, it really is appreciated. Hopefully more of the same in the November challenger and the summer Nottingham ones perhaps?
Just makes you wonder why they can't do that for more tournaments, especially considering the Futures last week was in exactly the same location with presumably all the same resources that are available this week to present live streaming and commentary. I do wonder how much of it is the LTA's doing though, I would guess it is more down to bet365 and the other gambling sites who have provided the cameras and such for this week.
On a side note, it amazes me how small Bath must be. During a 15 minute walk to a pub in town at around 9pm this evening I passed Broady, Golding, Burton, Smethurst and Corrie all together then a couple of minutes later Dustin Brown and another guy I recognised from the courts but didn't know his name. Guess all the players must be staying in the same location pretty close to where I live.
Nick Lester was musing about this on Twitter ("interesting move by the LTA to stream Bath Challenger live on their website, can't imagine figures would be too high, wonder what the cost is?") - I agree that there must be a betting site involved in the streaming - the fact that two courts are being streamed on bet365 rather gives it away!
I imagine the negotiations in essence went something like this
Betting site: we'd like to stream two courts from the Bath Challenger LTA: OK, but only if you let us broadcast one of the streams on our site too Betting site: OK, but only if you ensure that our two courts only have men's matches on them LTA: Done
If that is how it went, then well done to the LTA for making the most of the situation.
