R1: (WC) Adham El-Effendi (USA) & Darren Walsh vs Lukas Lacko & Lukas Rosol (SVK/CZE)
A tough draw for the boys, & if they get past the Slovak-Czech combo, they'll in all probability face the top seeds, Santiago González & Scott Lipsky (MEX/USA)!
Not to mention a minimum of 25 ranking points in the bag! Just checked on Darren's "stats" & he's currently ranked 816 in the doubles (down 3 places - CH 806 on 20th February this year), so I would think he's about to move into the 700s. The $800 prize money he'll pick up for this win more than doubles his combined earnings from singles & doubles so far this year ($775/$2,115 career).
Unsurprisingly, since he & Darren seem to play doubles together fairly regularly, Adham, who's about 18 months older, has exactly the same ranking profile, but has earned slightly less over his career so far ($1,680). Good luck in the QF, lads!
QF: (1) Santiago González & Scott Lipsky (MEX/USA) WR 65 vs (WC) Adham El-Effendi (USA) & Darren Walsh (ranked in the 1,000s?)
I think that's what they call a challenge
I couldn't agree more, Indy, but the boys rose admirably to it, taking it to the wire & almost pulling off a spectacular win in the MTB: they lost a tight match by 3-6 6-3 [7-10]. Pity. With the top seeds out of the way, there'd have been no seeds left in the draw... At least they didn't disgrace themselves. . They seem to play well together.
