Well that made for comfortable viewing didn't it, only needed 6MPs this time.
Serve seems to be an issue at the moment, so many deuce games, but I am just happy she got the 'W'. Will need to play much better tomorrow to win, but I expect her to be better.

Very good to see Laura get that win  smile

She's clearly still quite some way off her best, but matches like this should help her. Now hopefully another decent one, maybe up a level, and if she plays Heather she is quite likely to rise to that challenge.

Would be great to see Laura start to get her season really going.  These 60 points from Aussie Open qualifying have helped her hold up her ranking well for the moment and now she will want to find some significantly better form after her travails of the last few months.

Long term all still good, just be great to get things going in the short term too and more matches can only help.  Good decision coming here .

Laura plays Zhang( former top 100 player regaining a bit of form).
Hev plays Lim( beat her a while back, but Lim seems to be playing well this week).

Both first on at 2GMT but neither on the Bet365 court, so I'll probably give the tournament office a ring at 5 to find out the scores.

Not easy matches for either, but that time Hev beat Lim in 2010 should hold good memories - it was in the Final in Toronto, when she won her first 50K title, cracked the top 200 and made the GB top 3. It was that weekend when GB players had titles coming out of their ears.

Lim, I seem to remember, claimed that Hev's coach took her to MacDonalds every night and that must be her secret. (sounded kind of unlikely!)

That stuck in my mind and worried me.  Furthermore, I think that same coach is now Laura's coach.  Hopefully he has gained some nutritional wisdom now

Really pleased for Laura to get the win today. I mentioned yesterday that a few months ago Heather would have won her match more easily but right now it's all about the win, and I think that counts double for Laura today.

Even more impressive that she dealt with the adversity of losing the second set having had match points as it's the first time this year that Laura has come back well from a difficult situation.

It would be good for Heather and Laura to continue their revival in form and meet on Friday, but for me the main objective of this week has been achieved in getting at least one win ahead of next week's tournament.

What a shame. i wonder how many match points she had in that second set.

Cancel that comment biggrin  Nonsensical !

Thanks Phil, for  getting the results in.  I have never had any luck ringing tournament offices in the US.

I seem to have just been followed on Twitter by the "Zhang Shuai fan club" ... do they think we'll find out before they do?!
