Week 9 - ATP 250 - International Tennis Championships, Delray Beach, FL, USA - hard (Doubles)

Another excellent week for Colin & Ross Looking at the pairs who started the week 5th-12th in the Race plus the pairs who have reached the 500 series Finals in Dubai and Acapulco this week:

860 Bhupathi/Bopanna (started at 15) : 360 + 500 Dubai 500 WIN
770 Llodra/Zimonjic (started at 6) : 680 + 90 Dubai 500 QF (out)
750 Marrero/Verdasco (started at 21) : 250 + 500 Acapulco 500 WIN
700 Butorac/Soares (started at 5) : 700 + 0 Acapulco 500 R1 (out)
660 Fyrstenberg/Matkowski (started at 14) : 360 + 300 Dubai 500 RU
645 Fleming/Hutchins (started at 9) : 495 + 150 Delray 250 Final - 745 if win Final
600 Cermak/Polasek (started at 11) : 420 + 180 Acapulco 500 SF (out)
540 Lipsky/Ram (started at 7) : 540 + 0 Dubai 500 R1 (out)
540 Mertinak/Sa (started at 12) : 390 + 150 Delray 250 Final - 640 if win Final
530 Granollers/López (started at 29) : 230 + 300 Acapulco 500 RU
500 Mahut/ERV (started at 8) : 500 + 0 not playing together
450 González/Kas (started at 10) : 450 + 0 Acapulco 500 R1 (out)

So, the Brits are still 9th (overtaking Mahut/ERV and Lipsky/Ram but overtaken by the Dubai Finalists) but will drop to 10th if they lose tonight, with whichever pair wins the Acapulco Final set to overtake them.

However, if they win the Delray Final, they will move up to 8th if Marrero/Verdsasco win Acapulco or 7th in Granollers/López do.

Edit: updated after the Acapulco Final, which has just finished at about 1.15 in the morning local time! (wit the 'wrong' result )

Fletch take the opening set 7-6(6) from *2-4 down in the set and 4-6* down in the TB. Great point to win the *5-6 point in the TB. :hpraise:

Istomin and Elgin both serving and staying back. Fletch look a bit tentative on volleys though, I would like to see them play more angles using their opponents pace. Elgin's second serve is very weak they need to start going down the line a bit more because Istomin is poaching well at the net.

All over Elgin's serve. Break to love, *4-3.

Broken back to 15, but one of the best points of the year sets up a break back, *5-4.

GSM Fletch 7-6(6) 6-4

Good win against an unorthodox pair, and they are more than likely to face that type of team first round in IW and Miami if they get in those events.

Michal Mertinak (SVK) and Andre Sa (BRA) in the final.

Firstly I was being a bit stupid and thinking the top seeds would have byes like most Masters Series (so most the doubles specialist teams would be seeded, so most first round matches would contain singles players), but it's a 32 player draw in IW and Miami. That's why I said in the first round in my post. I was just thinking of that first round match.

They are currently two out from making Indian Wells. Most probably they will have to rely on getting one of the 8 on-site spots.

Ah, I see what you were thinking.  Assuming there are 8 seeded pairs, they couild still get some singles players dabbling in doubles.

Correct   smile

Did the figs last night, but had left it with the Acapulco final match still to be played.  Kind of guessed even before I came on Steven might have been in action like last week.

Signs of a fightback?  The boys break to 40 to level the score in the second set, then hold to 30 to get their noses in front:  3-2*.
