Hard to condemn on the basis of one match, especially without knowing what happened. Sometimes it is just one of those days and it is possible that he came up against someone having the match of his life. Herbert did push a top 200 player to three sets in Marseille qualifying last week. The stats also indicate that he served very well, 13 aces in 8 service games and only dropped 4 points on first serve. Obviously a very disappointing result after such a solid performance in qualifying but lets hope it was just a blip on an otherwise upwards journey.

Incidentally Evo has since tweeted "hmmmmm interesting" which doesn't really tell us much.

If you look at an earlier tweet and it's preceding 'conversation' re 'big dogs' it appears that someone (his coach?) warned him not to be over confident.

that's a tough one for evo, but it still been a good start to the year overall. Sometimes game styles just don't match up.

Ken Skupski re. yesterday, after OEM questioned how Dan could have lost so badly: "Impressive performance from Herbert yesterday. Play to a very high level throughout."

i agree sometimes we can overreact to scorelines, and these guys are less than 100 places apart.

R1: David Rice & Sean Thornley lost to Martin Fischer & Philipp Oswald (AUT/AUT) by 1 & 4 cry

At least that means no divided loyalties for the QF encounter:

QF:  Martin Fischer & Philipp Oswald (AUT/AUT) vs (3) Jamie Delgado & Ken Skupski

agreed.....at the end of the day (based on his quali seeding) he performed better than his seeding expected. we ("i") hoped for more based on DC performance but small steps....5 points gained.
