L32: (Q) Jack Carpenter WR 1116 lost to (4) Jordi Samper (ESP) WR 392 by 6-7(3) 5-7
Jack obviously went down fighting!
He certainly did. Fought back from 4 - 1 down in a first set of 8 breaks of serve. Couldn't quite finish it off though. Typical workman like performance. He is playing well and had his chances.
Didn't stay for second set. Three hours on hard wooden seats was enough and the evening temperature was getting cold - by Spanish standards.
Since the question of ranking at various ages tends to come up quite a lot, here's a quick look at the ages that Andy, Greg, Tim, a French player who finally reached the top 100 in his 30th year, and Wardy were first ranked and then reached the top 1000, 500, 250, 100 and top 10 (as applicable) plus their rankings at each birthday:
Yes, she is, but that's probably not a good comparison - it is still the case that girls tend to start being able to compete well at senior level a couple of years younger than boys.
It is probably fairest to say that getting an ATP point now doesn't mean Kyle is a shoe-in to be a top 10 player or even a top 100 player (though it doesn't mean he won't be either!) but it's a big step in the right direction, especially when he got it by beating a top 500 player.
Steven. This is unacceptable.

Hello Bob in Spain,
Great you have joined us. Looking forward to more on site commentary. Excellent.
Andrew the idiot Castle is commentating on Murray's match for Sky Sports and he mentioned that Kyle had picked up his first ranking point. I was fairly impressed with Castle for mentioning this. However normal service was quickly resumed when he added something like "I don't know where he got it, only that he did".

You'll have to get a cushion and a puffa jacket
Hi Julia
Just happen to be lucky that they are in my part of the world at the moment. Didn't get to see Kyle's win yesterday, but did watch him win in Murcia qualies last week allegedly against Mark Vervoot.
I say "allegedly" because the person he actually beat 6-0 6-4 in the 2nd round was definitely Spanish. Towards the end of the first set, the guy was heard shouting rather loudly in Spanish, "does this kid never miss!!"
If I had to some up what I saw of Kyle's game last week, I could do it in 2 words. "AWESOME POWER".
It may well be that it was Vervoort you saw and he has been brought up or trains/trained at an academy in Spain and has picked up the language - 11 of his last 12 tournaments have been in Spain.

Oops! Not the kind of thing I usually get wrong, but I didn't realise that was wrong until your post prompted me to look up the derivation!
