15-year-old Borna Coric (the 3rd ranked 1996-born player in the ITF junior rankings) beat world junior no. 7 Pavlasek, also in 3 sets:

L32: Richard Bloomfield WR 483 beat (6) Alex Ward WR 342 by 6-4 5-7 6-1

L16: Richard Bloomfield WR 483 v (WC) Borna Coric (CRO) UNR (but will be ranked next Monday having beaten a top 800 player in R1 last week)

Coric has been Evan Hoyt's doubles partner a couple of times and, in junior singles, lost 1 & 3 to Josh Ward-Hibbert in Yucatan last November.

Yes, certainly beats the the CH win showiing against Middelkoop from 2010.

That win, over 2 years ago in Glasgow Futures January 2010, was actually George's first ever ranking point win when still a 16 year old !

That great win for George now gives him a R2 match against a qualifier or an err qualifier   smile

But one of them is Marie who got to the semi finals last week.

It's a Futures event, so the LLs don't get given out in ranking order. Hence not getting the LL spot doesn't necessarily mean they didn't sign in for it.

L16: (Q) George Morgan WR 714 v (Q) Filip Veger (CRO) WR 1260

Last November, Veger upset Josh Milton in Bratislava but then lost to Oli Golding in Antalya a couple of weeks later. He beat one of last week's Brit-bashers, Jules Marie, today.

Danger!  Danger!  Michalicka's already on the rampage again in the bottom half of the draw (Bloomers')! hmm   He & Alex Ward have given the Sabanov brothers (?) a walkover into the doubles SF.  Hope that doesn't mean that Alex has picked up some kind of injury...

Not quite sure really what to make of George.

It did look a good chance to reach a QF against a fellow and lower ranked qualifier.  The score's a bit of a shock, although he does seem to have some "toe" issue.

After winning just one ranking point in the previous year to then, he did have his "breakthrough", reaching the Sweden F5 final in September last year. The draw there did seem to open up a bit in later rounds, but he did very well still to get to the final.

In tbe five months since then he has won a total of 5 ranking points ( from 5 L16 appearances ) in the 9 times he has been in a futures main draw, beating a total of 3 top 1000 players in main draws.

Those 3 have all though been top 500 players and all this year :  Eaton ( WR 358 in in GB F1 ), Ouanna ( WR 416 in GB F2 ) and Nieminen ( WR 312 here ).

He is actually 3 - 3 vs top 500 players in the last 5 months and 3 - 2 this year, but has also lost to players outside the top 1000.

So certainly the talent is there, but not as many results ( and points ) as I am sure he would have hoped for since that Sweden final

Just turned 19 so time still on his side, and those 3 wins this year show real promise.  I think that he will be looking for more consistency.
