Strangely, this win means Laura will be GB no. 3 on Monday week when Hev's Memphis WTA Q+QF points come off.

Yes, Laura's hasn't exactly made it to GB No. 3 in style. However, given that from her tweet today she has Tonsilitis, her result against Anne was no surprise.
It seems that Anne v Heather today went exactly as people on this board predicted, a close match but Anne coming out on top. Anne has now won 9 in a row v GB opponents so it's not something that phases her at all.
Anne's been drawn against Paszek (AUT) in R1 - who has a 0-6 record for 2012 (from Steven's tweet), with Agneiszka Radwanska waiting in R2 for the victor
Anne draws Tamira Paszek, so both players will be familiar with each other's games from Fed Cup observation last weekend. The Austrian is 2-0 on Head to Head, the last being in Miami in 2010
I'm glad. Changing of the guard not happening quite yet. (Someone else suggested that in another thread here - 'predictions' I think)
Wonder how much the Olympics are concentrating Elena and Anne's minds at the moment.
Like we've been around for a damned long time and carried British women's tennis to an extent. We deserve this and if you think you youngsters are going to deprived us of our places, you have another think coming
I was wondering how many places do the Brits / can the Brits get in the singles ( men and women ) and how are these decided ?

None guaranteed - they are done on ranking, subject to a maximum per country (4 this time I think). However there are some (8 I think) discretionary places. Precedent is that they always ensure the host country has some representation in each event, but they are also looking to ensure participation from countries not represented etc. so not being top 70ish is a hostage to fortune
Anne is first up on court 3 tomorrow (12.30pm GMT) and plays doubles with Sorana Cirstea later on (well, at least we hope they play this time ) They are up against Medina Garrigues and Pavlyuchenkova
