Yeah, 6 points for qualifying (plus 1 for being in the 1st round?)

Possibilities if Sam Qualifys are: RYBARIKOVA(2) WR70, DOLONTS WR168, BRODSKY WR204, GOVORTSOVA(7) Wr97, TATISHVILI(3) WR80, JEUKENG(WC) 629

No prizes for guessing which one Im hoping for!

I'm pretty much certain, you only get the six points if you lose in the first round.

Yes, just the 6 points from qualifying if you lose in the first round.  That is the case generally for the women.  You don't get qualifying points added to first round losing points.  They do add to all subsequent losing round points.

Ok, ignore last post, it's not Jeuking thats available for a qualifier. It's Larcher De Brito! Not quite so appealing, but still winnable imho.

4 Qualifying places and 2 LL's available so far

Sam is also in the doubles here, playing with Whitney Jones(USA)

R1: Murray/Jones vs Hlavackova/Hradecka(1)

No Brits involved, but a good response to a request for an interview reported on the Midland twitter account:

"Brengle d. Falconi 6-1, 6-2 after intense 30 ball match point. We asked for a post-match interview. Her response: "Hold on, I'm gonna puke."

L32: (Q) Samantha Murray WR 375 v Gail Brodsky (USA) WR 204 (= CH)

Not the worst R1 draw Samantha could have got by a long way, but Brodsky is in ominous form having reached finished as runner-up in both of the 25Ks she played last month.

Not a huge surprise tbh

Of course this is a part of the world that Sam is very familiar with, having studied at nearishby northwestern university in Illinois.

ooooohhhhhhhh. Shame. What a fight though. Much closer than most of us would have expected.

Yes great effort, this form is a major step up from Sam, so really encouraging going forward. Playing near to where she studied may have helped her this week.

Pity for Sam, looks to have played a good match there.  Brodsky had some good wins latterly last year, and although both her 25K finals this year were on clay and she only beat two top 300 players ( WR 285 and WR 290 ), ( losing both finals to players outside the top 300, including having another 7-5 final set win over Jo Konta in the Plantation SF ), she is a decent level player in fair form to be getting so close to.

Sam gets 6 points here, so close to another 18 for a R1 win and really capitaling on her qualifying draw opening up to an extent.

Encouraging form going forward.
