Well that's a brilliant result. Wish I'd had some money on it

Anne was 3/1 with the bookies, but I just couldn't see her winning today going on last week's form. I wouldn't be surprised if the hot calm conditions here were more to the liking ( indoor like ) compared to the blowy weather in Israel.

Great win for Anne.

One win out of three probably par for the course on today's matches, but Anne was the least likely to get the win.

Now she should have the benefit of knocking out a top seed in that she won't have to face high ranked opponents in the enxt couple of rounds.

R2: KEOTHAVONG, Anne (GBR) 88 v MIRZA, Sania (IND) 111

Anne beat Sania in 2008 but lost to her in 2009.

Isn't that Anne's best career win?

Great win for Anne.

Sad that Laura wasn't healthy with a good draw.

I thought Heather could have won that one but hey

Pity for Heather and Laura.  The tournament site may say back problem for Laura, and that may be the main issue today, but I don't like the fact that the LTA twiiter so immediately said wrist.  There evidently does appear to be some sort of wrist issue, and I don't like wrist issues ( not saying back is always that great either ! )

Laura always looks distinctly "unbendy" to me. I may be wrong - as if! - but I speculate that her history of niggly injuries suggests that she has genetically stiff tendons, which - unfortunately - are likely to be a constant problem.

Michael Owen is a prime example.

Bottom quarter of the draw really opening up now with Zheng being beaten too. Next possible seed would be in the semis.

Hopefully Anne will take advantage.

Yes, I was impressed by the picture. Natarajasana, (by memory but it's been a long time) and it's a pretty near perfect pose (in the Yoga sense).

I was pleased to see she was doing Yoga. Also there was a picture of Heather doing a back walk on someone which is also a yoga technique.

I still worry about their diet though. Interestingly Heather commented that Judy ate too many cakes. She is a not a good example then (tweeted a Macdonalds picture too) but at least Heather seems more aware than she used to be.

Please do not ask me to cite 'scientific evidence' but fill the body with crap food and you will be much more prone to physical problems of all sorts. We know Laura has had digestive problems. I rest my case.

A great win for Anne especially after last week's exertions and a long flight, though to be fair to Cibulkova, she was involved in successful Fed Cup action on Sunday (beating Parmentier to put Slovakia 2-1 up against France), i.e. even later than Anne, before flying in from Bratislava.

There has been quite a change for both of them since the last time Anne beat her at Glasgow in 2005 - back then, Anne was ranked 390 and Dominkia 674!

Anne just tweeted............

'Was looking forward to playing dubs with @sorana_cirstea this evening but we got a walkover instead. Singles and dubs action tomorrow.'

And I was sitting here like a numpkin waiting for it to start

(I think the word is 'numpty'.................... hopeless

And there was I assuming it was their opponents who must have got the walkover, AK & Sorana having withdrawn because of their continued involvement in the singles competition, when I saw that the match scheduled to be played after theirs was already on court, but I could find no confirmation of it! wink
