Naomi had originally drawn Jill Craybas, but withdrawals had seen the American bumped up to 9th seed. Good chance of a win and some decent points here. Mattek-sands in the seed in the second round.

Great start from Naomi.

Good to see her mixing it up between ITF's and WTA events. It will do her the world of good in the long run

2 dfs from 40-40 cost Naomi the break. Broady's 5 dfs out of 12 2nd serves has been the difference so far. Not surprisingly, Naomi does well when she lands her first serve but has struggled against Bethanie's first serve.

Naomi breaks for *3-1 in the 2nd set having lost the first 3-6. Starting to win points against Mattek-Sands' first serve.

Then holds for 4-1* despite only landing one first serve in that game. BMS holds for *4-2

An ace to finish the set, having struggled to find her 1st serve during those last 2 service games and missed out on 4 2nd serves in a row from BMS from 0-15 the previous game. Quite a change from the first set, Naomi doing much better on her own 2nd serve, just a single df in the set, but having little impact against Bethanie's 2nd serve, yet winning 50% returning her first serve.

3rd set: BMS holds *0-1

Naomi broken to 15, losing 4 points against her 2nd serve 0-2*

BMS saves 3bps in a game full of 2nd serves *0-3

Naomi has completely lost her rhythm on 1st serve in her last 4 service games. Broken to love 0-4*

Naomi with 3 bps. She breaks to love *1-4. Neither player can find their first serve in this set.

Naomi saves 2 bps with first serves then lands her first ace of the set yet is broken again despite a series of first serves 1-5*.

BMS holds to win 1-6 Naomi failed to win a point behind her 2nd serve in the set.

Bethanie Mattek-Sands df Naomi Broady 6-3 3-6 6-1
