Dino's a DA here &, interestingly, Jamie B's the 8th alternate, behind two players (Pavol Cervanak & Stéphane Bohli) who are "not signed", whatever that may mean, while Alex Ward is 27th, but "not signed", Chris Eaton 29th (not signed) & Sean Thornley 53rd (not signed)!

No sign of any other Brits in qualifying ( seagull had aleady said in the week 5 entries thread that Jamie was still out injured ) so James on his own here.

L32: James Ward WR 161 v Ruben Bemelmans (BEL) WR 150
H2H 0-2 - Bemelmans won 2 & 2 in Jersey in 2007 and 6 & 6 in Zagreb Q two years ago, so James is getting there, you could say!
Could be quite a shock to the system going from Australia a week and a half ago to -14C on the banks of the Volga halfway between Moscow and western Siberia, but it'll make Glasgow feel toasty in comparison LOL

It would probably help if he had his own clobber ...
James Ward has arrived in Kazan minus his racquets and clothing ... per tweets below:-
Arrived in #russia and its minus 24 degrees! Took me 2 days to get here,12 hour wait in istanbul airport and now I have no bags either!!

Turkish airlines now say they don't know where they are!! Looks like I'm borrowing a racket and clothes from someone then...#notideal!!!!!!!
Bemelmans is now due to play a lucky loser tomorrow, so James must have decided borrowing a racket was not a viable option. That's a very long trip for nothing

According to the drawsheet on ATP website it has Wardy down as withdrawing because of his left knee.
An unlucky week all round by sounds of it. Unless lost bags/no racket is not a good enough excuse for withdrawing!

Well spotted! Let's hope that is all it is and he hasn't twisted his knee on the ice or something.

"Had to withdraw today- have had a shin problem and to play without correct trainers wud be silly just before davis cup!! Gutted!! No rackets or clothes don't help either!! Nightmare week for me....nobody travel on turkish airlines!! Now the trip home from russia...fun!!"
Kudos to James for putting DC first - hopefully pulling out now will mean he is fine for next week. What a nightmare week he has had though - can only hope the Slovaks bear the brunt of his frustration next week!
