Barthel has just thrashed Wickmayer 1 & 2 to win the Hobart Final ...

Laura needs to benchmark herself against 9 games.

A 1st round win for Laura would take all the press. Since her Wimbledon win though, she has been somewhat under the radar and I just have a gut feeling that she could be the lead GB sports story in a couple of days time. As long as she performs well though, its a no lose situation for her given the quality of opponent.

Heather's match against Azarenka opens up play on RLA! 11am on Monday. I think that will be midnight Sunday in the UK - but I am notoriously bad at time conversions where the location is ahead of us, so maybe somebody can confirm.

Laura is last (4th) on Margaret Court Arena, I'm not even going to try to guess what time that will be. Follows one ladies' and two men's matches.

I can't see Elena or Anne, but that might just be me missing what is there.

Jankovic can be a bit shaky at times, particularly when she gets a bit rattled and frustrated, so I supposed an upset isn't out of the question.

The score when Laura played Jelena at Wimbledon in 2010 was 6-3 7-6(5) to Jelena, time for revenge. smile.gif

Let's hope so!   Sounds as though she's played herself into some pretty good form after such a long time out through injury & JJ's not exactly Miss Consistency these days...  Marvellous news to wake up to! biggrin

Ooops - found Elena, 3rd on Court 11, same as James Ward, and Anne's match following on the same court.

She won 9 games when she played Jankovic at Wimbledon in 2010

They are 11 hours ahead - play starting at 11 am Melbourne time means midnight GMT.

Scheduling not ideal with Heather on early and Laura on late - will have to stock up on sleep tonight.

I would have to give Laura a better chance than heather of causing a major upset - the fact she is used to the courts from qualifying and is usually a fast starter in matches will give her a chance (I think she will need to get ahead of Jankovic early to have a chance though). Azarenka has such a solid game so it will be tough for Heather.

One good omen for Laura - she is yet to be beaten twice by the same opponent. She has lost 44 times in competitive senior matches to 44 different opponents, including Jankovic.

With the form Laura has been showing in the 1st sets I would not be at all surprised to see Laura take the 1st set off Jelena. However, perhaps because of the long lay-off, Laura has tended to lose concentration in the 2nd set. Laura has the game to win but Jelena will not let her get away with anything less than two sets at full concentration.

I think its a tall ask for all our girls except for Bally who i expect to win. Foretz is a journeywoman

Hev played Azaranka before and barely got any games so lets hope she doesn herself justice out there
