Week 2 Futures - GB F1 ($15,000) - Glasgow - Hard

Evans, Ward, Eaton and Rice are DAs. Burton, Morgan, Martin and Gabb have wild cards.

Qualifying draw is fairly strong at the top end of things and only two Brits (Thornley and Hudson) would qualify based on seedings.

Qualifying Draw

A little surprisingly there are only 44 players in the draw. It is a bit unusual for a 15K British futures not to have a full qualifying draw.

... except when it's in Glasgow!

Jonny O'Mara is the first (self-reported) winner in QR1.

You may very well think that but I couldn't possibly comment wink

I just remember from previous years that the Scottish Futures tend to get thinner qualifying draws than the English ones because of the (perceived?) travelling distance involved.

Yes, I know what you meant, I just couldn't resist.

However there was a full qualifying draw at Glasgow in November.

Jonny missed out on qualifying im afraid. jonny played poorly but TBH he wasnt allowed to play his best by a good german player too strong too much experience 2-6 2-6. Jonnys mum insightfully remarked that he is playing now against men whose living depends on a win and it showed-full time pros not just WANTING to win but NEEDING to win. thats the next step for jonny As ever thanks for the support. Jonny got an exciting few months ahead of him working with a great coaching team -exciting to see how things pan out.

Dissapointed to hear that Jonny lost, however encouraged that he is now playing with the 'big boys'. I used to work at Next Gen in Monifieth and loved watching Jonny hit on the outside courts from my office window.

I'm sure he will have a great future ahead as even at that age, he would have been 10-11 at the time I think, he was unbelievably good. All the best for the future.

Just to add a bit more context, Jonny was up against Sami Reinwein (GER) WR 630

Not going to type out all today's results but updated draw is linked to below. No massive surprises as seeds 1-8 all went through. 9th and 10th seeds Nicholas Jones and Adam Thornton-Brown both lost but both to other brits, Michael Ward and Stefan Sterland-Markovic.

We are assured of 2 British qualifiers (Thornley v Tutu and Hudson v Sterland-Markovic) and could have up to 7. On paper Oakley has the best chance of the other brits.

Not so much the (perceived?) travelling distance but the cost - It's cheaper to fly to Germany than rail fare to Glasgow for example.

True (not to mention utterly ridiculous)

Perhaps not so much this year, but normally the temperature could be a factor too.
