RE: Does Anyone fancy putting heads together to find me a sponsor?

Fitzy mate WHAT IS YOUR NAME ? start with the simple things, I'm assuming Andrew Fitzpatrick and congratulations on the win last week.
But you can't expect people to search for basic information you have to make it easy for them, what would be the point of me saying to friend 'have a look at this' and they come back and say fine but who is he and where is he playing next ?

For each person that posts on here (and knows who you are)there are probably twenty who read the forum on a casual basis. If people know who you are it's a lot easier to push the sponsorship route.

I think you've got some great ideas, but I wouldn't waste time & resources spreading them too thinly. The Count is right sponsorship can be very hard to find and many firms are dropping deals as they feel the pinch. That's not to say you won't succeed, just that's it's not personal if you get a no from people.

Learn to love your regional TV & Radio & Press sports journalists, they are by nature lazy (I apologise to colleagues, friends and family but you know it's true).
A nice little Press release with pictures attached is often a good filler on a quiet day and in the Aus Open season they'll be keener on tennis stories.

I'm out of the media now, so can't help directly but the very best of luck with your efforts.

This may be a rather obvious point but have you spoken to some of the other guys on the tour?

You obviously aren't the first player to find yourself in this situation so you may be able to get some very good and practical advice.

On top of that I would echo what others have said about press releases. Also don't be afraid to sell yourself, in your letters to potential sponsors really hype your achievements. I don't mean lie but spin them as positively as you can, these companies probably don't have a clue what a futures event so you say that you regularly play in events with the players in the top 300. You say that these events can attract crowds of up to a certain number and then cite the rough attendance of the best attended futures event that you have played in. Talk about your rise up the rankings in the past couple of years and where you think you can be in the next year or two.

Doing well Fitzy - keep plugging away, I think you're doing all the right things - just need something to click into place.

Just wanted to say, massive admiration to you for coming on here and sharing your position. I think your ideas are great. I wouldn't be afraid of asking companies for what you need, remember when going to bigger companies that alot of money to you or I is a drop in the ocean to them.

It's great to hear how you are getting on, good luck with your tennis this year.

Good luck Fitzy your recent commitment and results deserves recognition - If you have blue eyes and live in Surrey I am sure that the LTA will help you out!  wink

You mentioned asking companies for products and services...got me thinking about what the 'tennis community' could do.

Would people be willing to let someone have a room (or help in other ways) for the duration of local tournaments? If not supporters then perhaps the LTA could set up a kind of 'Couch-surfing' network...If I was a member of a club where an event was being played I would be receptive to homing someone for a few days (perhaps in return for some tips!)

I know it isn't a great deal of money being saved but could be better than nothing. If you look at Minor League Baseball in the USA teams house players with local families as there is no other way for players to support themselves.
