Was just taking a look at the table on the back of steven's post on women's rankings, and wondering if there's any way of finding out the last update date?
I've put an updated version of this table for 2012 events on Google docs (without the 100Ks) and there is little change in the relative strengh of the foursome's opponents, all of them being a bit tougher. Anne is continuning her stunning run of luck with an average ranked opponent in the big events of 128, followed by Bally (98) and Heather (47), whilst Laura is suffering even more than last year, with an average opponent's rank of 23.
I've probably missed this on another thread, but does anyone know what's happened to Eleanor Dean? I noticed she's no longer ranked due to only having 2 tourns in the last year.
It may not be a bad thing for her overall development but its annoying in that it has distorted the relative rankings of our players which means in my opinion we have the wrong players at the Olympics.

From what I've read on the boards, this is a fairly common opinion. Almost like a sympathy, reward for past endovours for Bally and Anne. Not about who could bring us medals.
I agree it would take a huge increase in performance for any of them to stand a chance of a medal. So shouldn't we be fielding the pair who are around the right stage in their careers to possibly have a sudden increase in performance, rather than those who's performance has been in a steady state for many years?

I think from the actual rankings, and with Elena and Anne only recently being the Fed Cup singles choices, it was difficult to make a really clear case for Laura and Heather for the singles places. And ultimately no GB woman had qualified as of right, but was relying on a WC. Unlike Helen, I didn't see it as any sympathy award for Anne and Bally, but a genuinely difficult selection choice, and I was not surprised by the singles selection at the time.
That said, yes, even apart from knowing there is a possible rankings distortion, I would imagine there are quite a few of us that just had the feeling ( even before last week ) that the most likely players who would do any sort of damage at the Olympics singles are Laura ( in particular ) and Heather.

Well it's all over. I think on balence Laura aquitted herself the best of the four.
Didn't Laura play singes in the last Fed cup, last minute instead of Bally?
