Since no-one else has stepped up to the plate, here be this year's ranking prediction competition. I've made some changes to the rules in order to try and make each player's performance have an equal contribution to your score regardless of their current ranking, and to mitigate the effects of injury/retirement:
1. Predict the ranking of the current top 10 GB womens players (who haven't retired) at the end of the WTA tour on 29th Oct.
2. Predictions have to be made by 9th Jan.
3. The points scored for each prediction will be the difference between the higher of their actual rank and your prediction and the lower of the two, as a percentage of the lower. e.g.
You predict a rank of 150 and the actual rank is 200, you score (200-150)/200 = 25%
You predict a rank of 200 and the actual rank is 150, you still score 25%, not 33%
Using percentages means that the larger fluctuations in the ranks of the lower ranked players won't dominate the smaller movements of the better ranked players.
4. The winner will be the entrant the lowest average percentage error.
5. If any player fails to play in 16 tournaments (e.g. due to injury or retirement) the ranking points they score in the tournaments they do play will be increased pro-rata and they will be assigned a ranking equal to the highest ranked player in the WTA rankings with that number of points or fewer. If player finishes unranked, they will be assigned the same ranking as the lowest ranked player.
Please copy & paste the list below and add your predicted rankings to enter:
Elena Baltacha: Anne Keothavong: Heather Watson: Laura Robson: Naomi Broady: Emily Webley-Smith: Tara Moore: Melanie South: Samantha Murray: Anna Fitzpatrick:
Elena Baltacha: 78 Anne Keothavong: 84 Heather Watson: 92 Laura Robson: 75 Naomi Broady: 135 Emily Webley-Smith: 372 Tara Moore: 285 Melanie South: 427 (I imagine this may be her last year) Samantha Murray: 345 Anna Fitzpatrick: 395
I know this might be an extreme request, but how about a junior version with say Eleanor Dean, Liam Broady, Oliver Golding etc. I will understand if it may be too much work though.

I think it would be very difficult with someone like Eleanor Dean, not 16 until this coming Friday, to have much idea of what her junior and senior schedule will be like this year.
One thing that does really interest me is how the top male teenagers are going to do this year, which is why I was half thinking about doing a ranking compeition for the GB men top 20, before laziness took over, plus better left to these that have the technology against my generally manual toils
Maybe could have a mini competition with the top 1992 to 1994 born boys, eg. Broady, Golding, Morgan, Burton and Marsalek ?
