Girls: Copa Del Cafe, Costa Rica - Grade 1 (Week 1)

A stronger British presence in the girls event than last week, though Pippa Horn and Georgina Sellyn will have to tackle the top 2 seeds if they win their openers.  Pippa will do well to win her match, against an opponent who has won a minimum of 2 matches in every ITF main draw she has been in.

R1 (L64)

(WC) Katrine Isabel Steffensen (USA) v Pippa Horn (GBR)

(10) Katy Dunne (GBR) v Johnnise Renaud (USA)

Lana Rush (GBR) v (11) Valeria Patiuk (ISR)

Georgina Sellyn (GBR) v Anastasiya Zubkova (RUS)

If I've worked out how to do these ranking properly (no guarentees!) That win should put Georgina into the top 200 for the first time

Georgina is 11 points behind the girl ranked 200, and only gains 5 for her first round win (20-15), so needs to beat the second seed or have a good run in doubles to reach the top 200 for the first time

Yip, thought that after I posted. Didn't realise it was a 64 draw.

A great result for Georgina against a top 30 player - can she back it up to win big points?

Good for Georgina - it's so easy to lose to a lesser player after a top win. She played Brady last year and only managed 3 games, though the American had more difficulty with Benoit last week.

Even the 3 games of their last encounter was beyond Georgina cry

QF: (6) Jennifer Brady (USA) d. Georgina Sellyn (GBR)  6-0 6-2

A career high though and on to another Grade 1 in Venezuela next week
