A Few Thanks

Thanks for all the comments, though I am bit worried that someone has kidnapped the Count and replaced him with an impostor! wink

This continues to be a brilliant forum to be part of - a great example of what can be achieved by a group of enthusiasts all working towards the same aim, able to debate issues without holding grudges, able to take a joke and not taking themselves too seriously - well, we wouldn't be (in)famous for our punning 'skills' if we did, would we!

I am also happy about the way we manage to complement other forums (GBTG, the AMers, etc) instead of 'competing' with them - as evidenced by the fact that when the original AM forum got shut down, it was immediately obvious to daisy that the offer to provide a temporary home was a genuine attempt to help and not an attempt to 'poach' their members (mentioning no other forum names in this context LOL)

While I am happy (though still always surprised!) that some people find my strange statistical obsessions useful and I would definitely echo Shhh's comments about the amazing work David C does re. the juniors, Peter re. the women & Seagull re. the entries (without which those sections of the forum wouldn't have nearly such a good base to work from), not to mention Stircrazy & friends' efforts to keep us up to date with what is happening in doubles, there are plenty of others who also play a big part.

There are those who make contributions across all sections, those who go to Futures and Challengers and send back scores and then do reports on their return, players (and those who know them) who contribute a bit of 'inside info' and so on ... plus everyone who reads the forum and thus validates the view that there are more than just a few die-hard supporters of GB tennis who are keen to get timely info about all the players, which of course is part of what makes it all worth it!

The wolf, indiana, philwrig, TMS and (for his insights from the coalface) Fitzy immediately come to mind as having contributed a huge amount this year in those kind of ways, but I am sure I have missed some very obvious people, for which I apologise! We are also lucky that when people who have contributed a lot in the past get busy, there always seems to be someone ready to step into the breach.

Anyway, I hope everyone sticks around for 2012, I think it could be quite an exciting year! biggrin

And I haven't said my 'thanks' yet. I love this forum. I am as addicted to it as I am to following tennis. Looking forward to the 'down under' season and all the excitement (but not the lack of sleep) that goes with it.

Thank you GB tennis board and all who sail in her !!

Genuinely my favourite site on the web. I'm particularly grateful to those of you who answer (what are often!) stupid questions from people like me.

Happy New Year!

Stephen

Thanks to all those who make this site such a great place to be a part of.

Although a bit of an all round sports nut, it's not that many years ago that in tennis I was aware of the top players, followed the really top tournaments to different degrees and that was essentially the Grand Slams really, and that was about it. The say 5th or 6th ranked GB player would be but a name to me, who popped up at Wimbledon most years.

For some time now though I have been totally hooked and learning about and following increasingly many seniors and more in the last year or two the juniors, and once that started combined with my statistical bent ( statistically trained and always like the stats of sport, though I really have to bow, as we all do, to Steven here ! ) it has been really a source of great interest to follow their rises smile  and falls  cry

One of the best things here though is how we can discuss, and sometimes debate, so pleasantly. I think we will all be aware such routine pleasantness is not the norm for sports sites, and indeed some tennis sites. That saves me quite a bit from myself.  That is I am always up for a  debate / arguement and if someone talks rubbish ( in my view, which of course I think is right smile ), occasionally really purely at the wind up, I have difficulty turning away. I can spend hours on football sites arguing with idiots, mixed in with good constructive arguements.  Here it is really just the tennis, and if we have a debate, and occasional arguement, it is conducted almost always in good spirit and genuine debate rather than just points scoring.  Thank you to all for that.

Not like me to waffle on much more than I meant to. Ahh, another new year's resolution, cut it down, mate  smile

Have yourselves a great 2012,

Iain

Been away from the forum for a little while as I tend to switch off from tennis in late November and December so I am going to add my belated thanks to everyone who contributes to this site but especially to those people who provide stats, tournament info, results, etc.
