No one has picked up on the fact that Kaia Kanepi World No. 34 is top seed here!

Any idea why? I remember a few years back when Wozniacki was ranked 13 ( I think) she entered a Denmark $100,000 as a way of boosting profile of tournament and now Copenhagen has a WTA tour stop. She was highest ranked player ever on ITF tour I think.

What are the rules around that? What is stopping Kvitova entering a few bigger ITFs like in Dubai/Toyota to overtake Wozniacki as number 1?

Kaia is Estonian so not sure she is doing this to raise the profile of the tourney.

I'm sure I read about Kanepi being the top seed. Now where did I see that? above.gifabove.gifabove.gif

My bad! I spotted this yesterday on my phone but couldn't type a message so forgot to check if anyone had noticed before I wrote my post!

Nic lost the first set 6-1 after winning the first game. However, she has just broken to lead *2-1 in the second.

Finland & Estonia historically have enjoyed quite a close relationship:  their two languages are related & they lie opposite one another on either side of  the Gulf of Finland.   Given the distinct lack of tournaments of a similar calibre in her native land, it's probably the closest she could get to a home event. wink
