Perhaps this should be a "singles only" board? The constant bleating about the worthlessness of doubles is one reason why I'm loath to post as often as I used to.ashamed

I agree, but I see none of that in this thread. confuse

I mean if you had posted that in the Basel or Paris threads then I would have seen what you meant.

Many apologies to you wolf. ashamed I had made the mistake of reading those threads first and by the time I got to this thread sense and reason had flown out of the window. You, of all people have proven to be appreciative of everyones efforts be it in singles or doubles.

I don't see any reason why the Germans would tank as Begemann was still in the singles and Moser is a doubles specliast but this was posted on Moser's website 08.Nov 2011
Not a good trip for Franky in England. They hardly have chances when they lose 2-6,1-6 in the first round in Loughborough at the most likely saddest organized tournament out there! Franky is going home tomorrow...

Bad English, but I think I get the message!  If that's the case (& since it's an LTA event, I'm quite prepared to believe it), shame on those reponsible for the organisation. disbelief

I was under the impression that one thing the LTA did tend to get right was decent orgaisation of tournaments, at least for the players, if sometimes spectators seemed to be a slight afterthought  ??

Fair enough.  I tend to believe anything bad anybody says about the LTA & I obviously can't speak from experience, so maybe just sour grapes on the part of a disgruntled Franky Moser fan because he, a specialist doubles player, & his partner were bundled out of the doubles event by a pair of Brit unknowns? wink

I have a feeling I'm being got at. . . In my own defence, I have to say that I am only against ANDY playing doubles, at least until he has managed to win a slam. While not very interested in doubles results, I'm quite happy to support Colin, Ross and Jamie, of the higher level players, and any of the others who do well. I think I was the one who posted Colin and Jamie's result yesterday.

Edit - no, I see I wasn't, I went to the thread to post it but was too late. I was actually following the livescore towards the end.

Wonder whether they'll face the Young Turks in the final...  Connor & Scott were leading by 3-0 in the first set, but their Irish opponents are proving to be made of sterner stuff than either of the previous two pairs:  3-2*.  hmm

Looks as though their doughty resistance may finally be crumbling:  5-6*. cry

Another crack in the wall of resistance:  2-3*.  They had a game point in the fifth, but couldn't convert it. hmm

But no, they break back to 30 in the eighth game of the second:  *4-4. wink

Looks very much like curtains now:  they had a set point in the tenth game, but were eventually broken.  5-6*.

Unbelievable!  The boys somehow engineer another break to take the second set into a tie-break after an hour & 37 minutes! wink

Barry & Glancy eventually triumph by 7-5 7-6(4) after one hour 44 minutes & 35 seconds.  The WCs did well!      The Irishmen live to fight another day - in the final agin J & J.  It's the latter's to lose now - I hope!
