Not surprised to see Dom turn up here in the doubles, but a bit perplexed by his choice of partner, "Big Jessie" Levine! And gedda load of their opponents in the first round:
R1: Dominic Inglot & Jesse Levine (USA) vs (2) John Paul Fruttero & Raven Klaasen (USA/RSA)
Let's hope the new scratch pairing can enjoy as much success as Dom & TCH did in Charlottesville last week.
It says "def" in the official results . I had some trouble finding "Nashville" - the ATP has it as Knoxville.
I have no idea of the line of demarcation between "retirement" on ground of injury & "default", whatever that may be, so I just assumed an injury of some kind when I saw "default" on the LS. Either way, Jamie emerged as the winner ( ), though it would be useful to know for future reference where a "default" kicks in... Any suggestions anyone?
You're right about Nashville/Knoxville, Mad. I simply read what I expected to see (Knoxville), when I looked for the draws/live scores on the ATP site, so paid no attention to the detail. Corrected now, though.
Hey everyone. Hope things are going well. Let me give you a little insight into what happened. I talked to Jamie after the match and this is what he told me. After Jamie broke to go up 3-1 his opponent hurled his racquet to the back wall and it struck a ball kid. Immediate default.
Jamie and I have become very close over the last few years. He trained at my club for a week a couple of weeks ago. My two boys love him to death. Great guy all around. Have also become good friends with his coach Keith. Sorry I haven't been over here in awhile. Hope to stay in touch more often.
By the way, our Dallas Challenger is Feb 4-11 next year and we will be a 100k event. Cheers.
A bit like like that hooligan Tim Henman who was once thrown out of Wimbledon when he thrashed a ball and it hit a ballgirl on the head.
Re retirement / default, I would have thought it a pretty general disctinction that if you give up the match through injury / illness you retire, and if you are thrown out of a match for your wrong actions of some kind, i.e you are disqualified, you default. Can't immediately think of what general grey areas there might be.
When I saw "default" I was thinking that Molchanov must have committed some sort of serious naughty.

Yes, there's a clear distinction between ret. and def. and didn't take long to find out why it happened on Twitter (thanks to TBarM7 for clarifying the exact circumstance - I has immediately assumed the ballboy was at the net, and like Indiana, immediately thought of Henman 1995, though that was a ball not a racket obviously)
"Boo Denys Molchanov 4 hitting my son with his racquet during the @KnoxChallenger . Yay to the officials for ejecting him from the" ... from the ballboy's mother
"Bruised thigh, nothing serious. Molchanov definitely learned a lesson the hard way." ... from the tournament itself
L16: (Alt) Jamie Baker WR 284 v (7) Michael Yani (USA) WR 174 (CH 143 in 2010)
Jamie actually leads the H2H 1-0, having beaten Yani 6 & 3 in the Lexington Challenger QFs in 2007.
