Week 44 - ATP 500 series (€1,838,100) - Swiss Indoors Basel (indoor hard) - doubles

In the same (bottom) half of the draw (Mad ain't gonna like this! wink ):

R1:  (WC) Stéphane Bohli & Marco Chiudinelli (SUI/SUI) vs Colin Fleming & Ross Hutchins

R1:  Andy Murray & Jamie Murray vs (2) Max Mirnyi & Daniel Nestor (BLR/CAN) bleh

Why don't you like it? Not a fan of non-doubles specialists playing dubs?

If you're not a fan, totally agree with it. If you're a fan, totally disagree with it.

First ATP500 of the year for Fleming and Hutchins. They couldnt have hoped for a much better first round draw!

Jamie hasnt lost a Doubles match to Mirnyi since they played together in 2008. Theyve played against each other 3 times in this time, the most recent being in the final of Valencia last year.

a) I don't like Andy wasting his energy playing doubles

b) I think it's high time Jamie settled with a permanent partner instead of relying on Andy to keep his ranking artificially high

c) Although I don't mind watchin a good doubles match, I can't muster up any enthusiasm for actually following doubles players and their results.

Not a popular attitude on here, I know.

In addition, how can the top players complain about how much playing they have to do then go and play doubles as well.

Good draw for Fletch. Wild cards in the first round and the seeds in their section are a scratch pairing.

Unsurprisingly, Andy's withdrawal from the singles event with a glutaeal muscle injury is followed by his & Jamie's scratching from the doubles (Mad'll be pleased...), so Mirnyi & Nestor are handed a walkover.

Except that that scratch pairing has just been dumped out by Malisse & Norman (7-5 3-6 [9-11]), who could be a slightly tougher proposition! hmm

Definitely not pleased that Andy has an injury - it's no help withdrawing from doubles if he can't play singles either!

Fairly plain sailing for  Colin & Ross in the first set, which they take by 6-3. smile

Easy peasy in the end for Colin & Ross:  they win by 3 & 1. smile

QF:  Colin Fleming & Ross Hutchins vs Xavier Malisse & Dick Norman (BEL/BEL)

The Belgians won't be a pushover, but the boys should have the beating of them.
