Week 43 Futures - Great Britain F17 ($15,000) - Cardiff (Hard)

The final British futures of the year and we have DAs for Goodall, Evans, Cox, Milton, Smethurst, Bloomfield, Thornley and Willis.

I am guessing at wildcards for Fitzpatrick, Golding, Feaver and Jones as they were all on the entry list but don't feature in the qualifying draw.

The qualifying draw has 31 Brits, 3 of whom (Marsalek, Hudson and Bugby) should qualify based on seeding.

All seeds through to the FQR with the exception of the Dutch 7th seed. Robert Carter beat Harry David Meehan in QR1 in two close sets before winning the QR2 in three close sets.

That gives us two certain qualifiers with the possibility of three more, two of whom are favourites (based on ranking).

I make it 4 more possibles, and it would be good to see them all make the most of the home advantage.

Why does a WC get used on Fitzy when he was inside the cut as a direct entrant anyway????

As far as I can tell, the last DA was Minar (WR 728 at the entry deadline), so Fitzy (who was ranked 750 at that stage) wouldn't have made the cut even though he is ranked above Minar now.

R1:  Constantin Belot & François-Arthur Vibert (FRA/FRA) UNR vs Dan Evans & Andrew Fitzpatrick WR 1630

R1:  Pierre Bonfré & Markus Eriksson (SWE/SWE) WR 1759 vs Jarryd Bant & Alan Bevan UNR

R1:  Dan Cox & Dan Smethurst WR 1173 vs Miles Bugby & Keelan Oakley WR 2375

The other five R1 pairings have a bye into the QF.  Interesting that Sean Thornley is playing with Oli in the doubles (third seeds), while Dave Rice isn't playing in the doubles at all!
