More info on Adbala, anyone?

 R1: DEAN, Eleanor (GBR) Q 829 v ABDALA, Nadia (MEX) 4 548

Abdala is at a career high She is 23 years old, played since 2004 but only occasionaly until December last year. If fact she seems not to have played at all in 2007. I suspect she has been studying somewhere and decided to go full time last year. She has played a lot of $10Ks this year reaching 2QFs, 3SFs and one F.

She played college tennis for Arizona State until 2009 and was ranked 51st in college tennis in her final year, and 26th the year before.

Tomorrow she plays singles at 10am BST and then doubles on the same court after another singles match.

That looks a very good win by Eleanor she looks like another young player who will be rapidly climbing the rankings over the next year or two.

I've been told off for tweeting that that win was an 'upset' LOL but I still think it was pretty good!

I don't think Eleanor beating anyone in this tournament could be considered an upset but there are plenty of opponents that aren't a walkover either. If she wasn't ranked off 8 tournaments and got to play a full season, she would almost certainly have been seeded here.

Interesting that Eleanor continues to avoid British events

I just noticed she's on the entry list for Loughborough in 2 weeks time.
