R1: Miles Bugby & Keelan Oakley WR 2367 lost to Oli Golding & James Marsalek WR 1615 by 2 & 3
R1: (4) Dan Cox & Josh Milton WR 1026 defeated Dan Smethurst & Alex Ward by w/o*
(*) Wonder if Alex suffered some sort of injury in the singles which might account for his unexpected defeat in the first round of the singles today & resulted in the subsequent withdrawal from the doubles?

R1: Oliver Hudson & Stefan Sterland-Markovic WR 3291 lost to Richard Bloomfield & Josh Goodall WR 1396 by 3 & 0

I don't know the scores but Wardinator met the Terminator and lost to 1438 ranked Scott Griekspor or in straight sets. Bugby was one set all but down 1-3. Close battle between Rice and Thornley. David nudging the first on a tie break after Sean had chances to win it but he was 3-1 ahead in the second.
Goodall looked much fitter than last year, but Bloomers still did not look to be moving well. Smethurst was up 5-3 against Evo in the first set but became very error prone to win only one more game to lose 5-7 1-6.
Glasgow is not normally depressing. The centre is nicely situated and the lighting is not bad. But the weather has been horrendous. Heavy rain high winds and floods and now terribly cold. Dark horrible and brooding, especially as most players are coming from 30 degree temeratures in the med!
Isn't it strange how the weather affects one's perception of a place? I once drove through Slough on a glorious summer's day and thought to myself "Actuallyy, Slough is quite nice"
I agree that the 2nd and 4th quarters have really opened up now but Minar, who took out top seed Crugnola yesterday, might be dangerous - he is a former top 200 player who got in with a protected ranking having been out of action between September 2010 and April 2011. Having said that, he has been playing for 6 months since returning from injury and apart from a Challenger QF (Astana), hasn't had back to back wins even in Futures, so he certainly hasn't been playing at top 200 level, but if his win yesterday means he is finding some form, he could be much more dangerous than his current ranking of 718 implies.

Milton beat Golding 4 and 4 and unlike philwrig I don't find it surprising. Milton is a tenacious little SOB on court, he might not be the best player the world has ever seen but he gets almost everything back across the net.
I know from talking to some of the British players that Josh doesn't like playing the young guns, feels under pressure, so was able to overcome that handicap.
