Week 41 Futures - Australia F9 ($15,000) - Kalgoorlie (Hard)


L32: Toby Martin WR 1115 v (3) Hiroki Moriya (JPN) WR 331

L32: Richard Gabb WR 1151 v (wc) Luke Saville (AUS) UNR

 

So far this year all 8 Australian futures have been won by an aussie with Lemke winning 4, Mitchell 2 and Look and Frost taking 1 each.

Dire draws - Luke Saville may be an unranked WC but he's the same Luke Saville who won junior Wimbledon this year!

Toby did better than I expected against the no. 3 seed:

L32: Richard Gabb WR 1141 beat (WC) Luke Saville (AUS) UNR by 6-1 4-1 ret.

Last week Martin was WR 1115 and Gabb was 1151
This week Martin was WR 1114 and Gabb is 1141

I really must be a numbers geek for pointing that out.

I don't know whether to be ashamed or relieved that I didn't spot that when I changed last week's rankings to this week's LOL wink

A wordy bit of geekery in return - there are four (unrelated) players with the surname Martin in the ATP rankings, pronounced in 3 different ways - French Fabrice at WR 259, Slovakian Andrej at WR 280 and US David at WR 707 as well as Toby.

Toby took Moriya to 3 sets in R1 of course (see above)
