After beating one player who is at a career high in R1, the highest-ranked player he has beaten since Odesnik at Sacramento in 2009 (also by a very convincing scoreline, only 6 games lost), Evo will play another in R2:
L32: (Q) Dan Evans WR 342 beat (8) Cedrik-Marcel Stebe (GER) WR 102 by 2 & 3
L16: (Q) Dan Evans WR 342 v Malek Jaziri (TUN) WR 138 (= CH)
Jaziri is 14-1 v Brits in the last 3 years, the loss being of course the one to James Ward in Davis Cup earlier this year.
Btw today's win takes Evo back into the GB top 5 - although that's still only around WR 320, it's been nice to see players getting into the GB top 5 recently because they have been winning matches instead of because players above them are failing to defend points, as was happening a few weeks ago.

GB on a shirt, Davis Cup still gleaming, 79 years of hurt, never stopped us dreaming ... 29/11/2015 that dream came true!
Having seen a few of his matches over the summer (Frinton and Chiswick) I did say a couple of times that I thought he was close to playing well. He then suffered a really alarming dip with some awful performances at Wrexham and Nottingham but fortunately the bigger stage seems to have brought the best out of him. That's three good wins in the last 5 days which is not something that happens by luck.
He has a few points to defend in the coming weeks (Glasgow and Cardiff) but now has a good shot of making top 300 by the end of the year.
