Week 41 - Challenger (€64,000+H) - Rennes, France (Hard)

QR1: Alex Ward WR 417 v (q1) Jerzy Janowicz (POL) WR 174

QR1: Dan Evans WR 345 v (q5) Romain Jouan (FRA) WR 225

QR1: James Marsalek WR 813 v (q3) Vincent Millot (FRA) WR 201

QR1: Josh Goodall WR 340 v Adam Feeney (AUS) WR 940

Evo and Ward are in the same quarter of the draw. Aside from Josh it is hard to see any of them winning tomorrow, let alone making it all the way to the main draw.

I would hope for at least one British success in the opening matches from Ward/Evans quarter

Josh won 7-5 6-7(1) 6-4 - Feeney was top 250 in 2007, so it's not as surprising as it may look at first sight that he pushed Josh quite close.

(q7) Middelkoop was seeded to meet the winner in QR2, but he went out to Setkic in 3 sets, so:

QR2: Josh Goodall WR 340 v Aldin Setkic (BIH) WR 499

A loss to Lee Childs in what looks like his (Setkic's) first match on the pro tour back in 2004 and a 2-tiebreak win against big bad Dom in a Bosnian Futures event early last year are the only times Setkic has played Brits in singles before.

My lack of optimism with regards to Evo's chances seem well founded.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's a n elaborate game of 'chicken' going on among the young Brits at the moment to see who can recover from the most abject 1st set crushing! LOL
