At least she can gain some points in the qualifying rounds. It's not like mens' futures qualifying where you can win as many as four matches and get no points.
She's defending qualifying points from last year, so won't gain anything, but I agree with your general point.
But those points come off this week anyway, so she would be gaining something. Something of use for the following year, something which she wouldn't have had if she had done nothing or gone straight into the main draw.
