Bet365 but the score has gone now so he must have lost.

Fitzy tweeted to say he won 1-6 6-4 6-1. That's an excellent win against the 7th seed, particularly coming from a set down. However, surprised he didn't try to take the second set into a tie-break. :)

thanks for the info on the stats. I would rather not tempt fate and get the job done before it gets to a breaker than rely on my record at the moment!
was a very high quality performance today after a first set in which i got completely dominated.
only 7 more breakers then until i equal the record!
There has been a guy here all week calling in point by point for centre court, so if u check the schedule, the centre court matches through the day will be live in play on www.bet365.com

Thanks Fitzy and big congrats for today. I think the scores for Alastair Barnes were being picked up from bet365 today, I assume you'll be on centre tomorrow.

I wonder if anyone has outdone Roddick's ATP 18 consecutive tiebreak wins record at Challenger or Futures level - I'd have thought someone must have, but unless the ITF also keep records about stuff like that or Akhenaten can work it out from the stuff he downloads for his ratings, it would be virtually impossible to find out. In any case, matching Roddick's streak is a good target to aim at but I'm sure you wouldn't mind losing a tiebreak too much if you went on to win the match anyway!

Anyway, it's been great to see you move up the rankings so much this year - you seem to have not only been picking up a lot more points but doing it against better players too. Are you playing a lot better this year or has something just clicked such that you've closed out matches more often?

Has the link-up with the SotoTennis Academy (they seem to 'claim' you as one of their players, anyway) been part of what's made the difference?

(feel free to answer as much or as little of that as you want to!)

thansk alot for the support always nice to have the backing from people who show an interested in tennis and not just people who jump on the back of the high profile players.
Thats where im trying to get to, but its nice to know people appreciate your graft and the unforgiving things you do to try to get there.

no question Soto tennis has helped me out, ive been working with dan kiernan for a while now and recently with nathan rooney, both top coaches.
They have got me more confident and ive found a self belief that comes from winning matches.
I have stopped just making seconds rounds and started making inroads into futures and now feel like i deserve to be in the latter stages and have the bottle and quality to win them.

Im more than likely going to be moving to spain. As the be honest and open as i always am, my mum has retired now and is selling up our house to move to the lakes.
So i will have no where to live come 6 months or so, shockingly bad timing as i need to push on now and given i have no funds i cant exactly rent somewhere, so im trying to find a way before it happens of how i can find somewhere to live while keeping my tennis going. any idea's feel free.
But i think i will end up moving out to spain with soto tennis full time and having that as my base. Ill have to coach every spare second to try to afford it.

I have always had ability but consistency was my problem, i could go close against a top player or win, but then the following months i would lose first rounds, now im backing up good wins with more good wins.
Who knows i might bump into some rich tennis fanatic and he will give me a years travel money to which i can really see what i can do.

Given GB are playing Slovenia in davis cup i think, klizan should play murray. I think i was the last brit that klizan played, and he lost, so maybe i should slide that into the press, or maybe give leon a cheeky text to let him know im available ha!

hope this answers your questions, always willing to show insight to anything u wish to know

Keep up the good work, Fitzy, you are doing great!

I suppose you could always copy Dustin Brown and buy a camper van to live in and travel with.

Hello Daniel (I assume that's who it is anyway - with a doubles career high of 150, no less, for forumites who weren't following things quite so closely a few years ago) - seems like quite a decent little operation you've got going out there in Spain.

Thanks for answering the questions, Fitzy. I've never quite understood why so many people jump on bandwagons at a really late stage - even with players who do reach the top, it's far more fun to celebrate their success when you've got an idea of where they've come from and what they've done to get there because you've followed them from an early stage yourself.

I also have a lot of respect for tennis players who do it tough in an attempt to follow their dreams - it's so much harder than in a team sport where you tend to get more looked after and a more guaranteed income and it really annoys me when the media go on about British tennis players 'having it easy' - which is probably one reason why it's tough to find sponsors.

For sure, some of the fully funded players probably have it easier than other players and some may have wasted their talent over the years, but I'm pretty sure most of the funded players don't deserve to be tarred with the same brush and the ones who have never been fully funded certainly don't. (oops, I didn't mean this to turn into a mini-rant!)

Sorry to hear that you're kind of losing your base in the UK. A full time move to Spain sounds brave but quite possibly the best way ahead right now, even if you have to do masses of coaching to make it work.

Like you say, it's the time to really push on if you can, especially while you have a completely clear run in the sense of having no points to defend until March, which in itself highlights the progress you've made in the last 6 months.

You're right about being the last Brit to have played Klizan when you beat him at Loughborough last year - I'd already put that little 'stat' on my list to work into a tweet once the media start getting interested in the Slovakia tie next year. wink

Talking of DC, you're already due (on Monday week) to take the place in the GB top 20 of one of the players who played a singles rubber in the last DC tie - unless Flembo gets some singles points from a Challenger or ATP next week, that is!

Ah, that Daniel Kiernan from Soto tennis that Fitzy referred to in his post.

Yes, I'd looked at his profile to see that he was from Spain and didn't even begin to put 2 and 2 together, let alone get the answer  ashamed

Thanks Steven.. yes it is Dan here.. We are certainly trying our best to create the environment that allows our players to excel and have a very talented coaching team/stregth and conditioning/sports science team now and with the attitude the British boys (Fitz, Alastair, Liam and Josh) are showing as well as lots new players I am sure they will carry on having deserved success..

I am away with Fitz in Cordoba and he pointed me in the direction of this site- great job guys- really interesting to read through the posts.. I will try and stay in touch on here as much as I can and being on the road allows the luxury of `time` which is severely lacking when trying to set up your own tennis academy in Spain! a lot of fun though!

That's an entertaining blog, though I imagine the Fresa feels like luxury after some of the places Fitzy's had to stay in Asia in the past!
