Indeed, that's good for George.  I'd still be expecting James to beat him in R2 though.

Apparently George's opponent twisted his ankle.

What about the argument that Oli's confidence must be at an all time high.
I remember Hev was able to kick on straight after her US open junior win, to me it just shows a lack of focus and something which he needs to sort out ASAP.

Some nice results in singles and doubles. Mr Golding's loss, however, is what it is ... a loss to a lower-ranked player that shouldn't (at least by the rankings) have happened. Unless there's something special about his opponent -- or some illness or difficulty on his own part that we're unaware of -- I'm sure (or at least I hope?) that's how he sees it. Be interesting to see how he and Mr Ward (A) do against the Dutch doubles team.

Pablo Figueroa (who beat Oli) has won 2 Futures before, he just doesn't play many of them.

He beat Frederik Nielsen in the final of Sweden F2 in Sep 2009, and this is only his 9th tournament since then.

Oli: "Tough day today, the other guy played a joke and I didn't really enjoy the conditions at all ! I'll try and win dubs now ..."

... followed by harsh but funny banter (well, it made me laugh, but then so do some of the puns here, so I must be easily pleased LOL) from a couple of the others:

Lewis: "@oli_golding yeah conditions was tough today mate so windy aint seen a day like that in a while...."

James: "Got to watch out for hurricane Irene out there @oli_golding"

This tournament is being played indoors of course, hence the digs, but of course 'conditions' can be more than just about the weather outside - e.g. the way it was a bit too hot and muggy in the Braehead arena at the weekend, which may have contributed to some of the conditioning problems we saw there.

Good banter.  I think being with that lot will more quickly bring Oli back to earth.
