Wow, didm't realise there were so many ranked players, I was going to say surely some mistake re George's ranking. But right enough There are currently 1924 ranked players.
The number of players in the ATP singles rankings has gone up by 10% (from 1754 to yesterday's 1931) since the start of this year, which must mean more tournaments are being played, i.e. a bit of a recovery after the recession-induced fall in the number of tournaments last year.
It's a similar story in the WTA rankings, also up approx. 10%, from 1186 to 1303, though in their case part of the increase must be due to the rule change, where you no longer need 3 counting events if your points from 1 or 2 events total 10 or more.

Dose of reality for Olly. A reminder, if any was needed, just how hungry these men are at futures level. Hopefully a better week for him next week when he is more acclimatised.
I would have been very surprised had Oli won today. On the one side of the net you have a player who had a week of TV interviews and the like, involvement in the Davis Cup and every man and his dog telling him well done. On the other side a player who has had to fight his way through qualifying.

Fair enough. But it would now be good to see Oli make some signficant impact on the circuit in the latter part of this year.
