Week 36 Futures - GB F14 ($10,000) - Roehampton (Hard)

As with last week at Wrexham there is not a single ranked player in the qualifying draw and once again we don't have a full draw with only 43 participants (35 brits).

http://www.atpworldtour.com/posting/2011/3378/qs.pdf

The field for the main draw is very weak with Goodall being the only player inside the top 600 to be competing.

I said last week that his good performance against Evo meant he deserved a a nice draw this week and for once the tennis gods have delivered.

An interesting match could by Lewis Burton v Ravi Patel. Last week Patel really pushed Goodall in the first set and I was very impressed with both his play and his attitude. He has that little bit of arrogance about him and clearly wasn't their just to make the numbers up.

It's yea old lucky James Marsalek draw not  disbelief   The guy simply has not had much luck in the last few months.  Has progressed well, but could of progressed quite a bit further up the rankings.

Might not be such a bad draw. Bloomers hasn't played in a while so could be rusty.

Hi guys, new to the forum. Anybody knows why the qualies for this tournament and also the one last week at wrexham have had such depleted fields? I mean it seems that anyone with an ipin could actually go down there, register and play. I play a lot of grade 3 tournaments here in England which are very far away from futures qualifying quality in my opinion and I can recognise a lot of names of guys that are rated 6.1 or 5.2. Why are they having such a hard time filling the draws in the summer season especially?

That's a good question but in this case it seems to be quite a positive reason - 7 of the GB top 15 are playing Challengers or Challenger qualifying this week and Chris Eaton is seeded 4 in a 15K+H in France. At least 3 or 4 of them would usually play in any GB Futures event going, but I'm happy to see them aiming higher in a week where there is a decent choice of non-clay Challengers.

Of the rest of the GB top 15, Muzz is at the USO, obviously, Slabba is injured, Dan Cox was playing in a Challenger in Thailand last week (not sure why he didn't go on to Shanghai with the others - maybe he's reserve for DC again), Boggo is training for Challengers in the US, which only leaves Alex Ward (who from his tweets may be on a training block) and Dan Smethurst, who recently had an operation if I remember right.

Everyone in the GB 16-25 range is playing Roehampton except Liam & Oli (playing USO Juniors), Flembo (playing USO doubles) and Corrie (back at uni. in the US, I think)

Almost forgot - welcome to the forum!
