"Singles is still more important for me and I am still trying to pursue a career in singles."
Which at the age of 22 is perfectly understandable but if he doesn't advance as a singles player over the next few years he might have a change of heart.
Not really a surprise. His recent form has been pretty poor and aside from his SF in Bath early in the year it is nearly 2 years since he won a main draw match at challenger level.
That's a great win - especially when you realise he was W 0 L 3 in Challenger main draw singles matches before this week!
Of course, he's still facing a 50-place drop in the rankings because of his two Futures Finals (including one title) in Mexico last year that are due to come off, which will seem a bit odd after making such a breakthrough here.
Can he beat ERV? It'll be though - only one Brit (Josh Goodall) has managed it in 13 attempts, and he counts a number of our Challenger-level players among his victims.

According to the drawsheet on the ATP site Matsukevich won by the same scoreline.
The site definitely has it the other way round, but tomorrow's OoP shows ERV playing Matsukevich, so I presume the site's got it wrong & it's certainly less of a surprise! What a shame.
