With Liam Broady, Oliver Golding, George Morgan and Kyle Edmund as direct entries for the final Grand Slam qualifying begins this afternoon with 2 Brits involved. Luke Bambridge is unseeded, but has a reasonable draw. His opening opponent won the South American closed championships beating world no. 4 Hugo Dellien in the final, but hasn't shown much on hard courts, losing to Alex Sendegeya earlier in the year.
Amusingly according to the schedule which was on the USTA site at lunchtime Laura was due to play girls singles on one court and boys singles (against the same opponent) on another. Unsurprisingly the schedule has since been taken down from the main site.
Eleanor would only have got in to qualifying like Laura by virtue of late withdrawals. She has opted instead to play a Serbian Grade 2 this week followed by another and a Croatian Grade 1. If she does well then she won't need to worry about qualifying for future grand slams.
The main draw is out and there are familiar names in store for all 4 early on
Liam is in the top quarter, starting with the boy who beat him in the controversial match at the Trofeo Bonfiglio, where he was deducted points for cramping. Kyle has a tough opener against former JWR4 Joris De Loore, who beat him at the Eddie Herr last year. The first seed that Oli can meet is Bjorn Fratangleo, who hammered him at both the Trofeo Bonfiglio and Roland Garros. The first seed who George can meet is his usual doubles partner Mate Pavic
R1
(9) Liam Broady v (Q) Stefano Napolitano (ITA) Joris De Loore (BEl) v Kyle Edmund (13) Oliver Golding v (WC) Brett Clark (USA) Julien Cagnina (BEL) v (10) George Morgan
Ooooh, tasty ties. Grudge match for Liam. Ollie should cruise. Not too worried about Frantangelo looming, he won't be doing much on this surface. George and Kyle are in for tough ones.
