RE: Week 36 - US Open - Men's Doubles

Interesting news...Granollers retired from his singles match today against Ferrero due to a back injury.

Indeed US Open website draw shows that Fleming and Hutchins have a WO into the QFs

Obviously hope nothing serious but very welcome points for them and may take Colin to a new CH.

The QF is likely to be against last years Runners Up - the 5th seeds Bopanna/Qureshi

Ah ! That explains it. I was confused when I couldn't find them on the schedule. Great news (sort of)

Boppy & Qureshi have beaten Hanley & big Dick tonight, so it will indeed be the Anglo-Scot Express v the Indo-Pak Express in the QFs.

Yes, and their second slam QF in a row

Based on the number of points needed for each position at the moment, Colin could scrape a new CH in the low 40s and Ross would be back in the top 50.

Are the Poles more generally known as the "pesky Poles"? Just asking because I thought the description was invented by someone here (StirCrazy?) but Judy has called them that today in her blog. LOL

Not guilty, M'Lud!  I generally refer to them as "the bloody Poles", but only because someone else (wolf?) referred to them as that after they'd proved to be the nemesis of quite a few British doubles teams in quick succession last year or conceivably the year before & I kinda liked the epithet!  I'm afraid I'm not normally anywhere near temperate enough to be content with dubbing them merely "pesky". wink  Maybe Judy's been secretly reading this board. wink

Certainly "pesky Poles" has been used quite a lot in the forum. I now use the term and I'm absolutely sure I picked it up from here and only here, but it may have come originally from elsewhere,  don't know

Marray was broken in the first game and nearly again in his next service game.

I've referred to the Pliskova's as pesky, but not the poles.
