Jamie & (Mexican) Gonzo soundly thrashed by the ninth seeds by 3 & 0. I suppose theirs was the toughest encounter by some way - & two out of three pairs through to the second round ain't a bad haul...
Shock of the day, in the doubles, at any rate: the Bryans are out, beaten 4-6 6-2 2-6 in the first round by Big Ivo & Frankie Moser! Bet they're ****-a-hoop!
I expected Hutchins/Fleming to win as Damm is basically retired now, but though Delgado/Marray were second favourites considering their lack of experience at this level so that's a great win for them.
Anything but a loss for Murray/Gonzalez would have been a major shock against a very good team.
Both remaining pairs have tough second round matches but neither of their opponents have been in great form in the last couple of months. Would say we have a semi-reasonable chance of getting someone though.
Another game I attended today. Thought it was church for the British boys but they really seemed to want it more than the Germans in the last 3 games. Marray's volleying was pretty good indeed !! Quite impressive indeed.
Did well to bounce back after the disappointment of losing the second set tiebreak (2 matchpoints on the Brazilian serves, but both comfortably saved), and had to save 3 breakpoints in the third after not giving away any previously.
It's the familiar Polish 6th seeds (Fyrstenberg/Matkowski) up next
180 - which after taking off the points they are defending should see them within touching distance of their career highs. Based on the points needed for each position at the moment, Jamie would be WR 76 cf his CH of 75 and Jonny would be WR 77 cf his CH of 74.
