RE: Week 35 Futures - GB F13 ($10,000) - Wrexham (Hard)

Yay Fitzy! biggrin (again)

That means...

Semi-finals

Albano OLIVETTI (FRA) (5) WR:492 Vs Josh GOODALL (GBR) (3) WR:418
Andrew FITZPATRICK (GBR) WR:857 Vs Sean THORNLEY (GBR) (7) WR:575

Thornley has lost 7 out of 7 of his Futures semi-final appearances!  And it'll be Fitzy first semi-final.  Interesting who'll make their first final.

Very well done to Fitzy.  For players trying to make that breakthrough, that leap in ranking points for a semi final compared to quarters must be very welcome.

Fitzy: "Just lost 62 16 46 - dominating and got tight, fought to get a break up in the third and got tight again. Learning curve I guess."

So Sean is through to his first Futures singles Final and it's an all-GB affair because the LTA report that Josh won 3 & 4 too.

The fitter leaner Josh certainly in much better form with his 3rd futures title in 2 months.

Given the pitifully weak field at Roehampton, and to a lesser degree Nottingham, I would expect him to add at least one more in the next two weeks.

The LTA tweet on the result said Josh hardly missed a ball. That's the 11th Futures singles title of Josh's career, 12th if you include a Satellite title, and it's good to see him getting back into form.

Having said that, I'd rather we were seeing him getting to Challenger QFs (etc) than winning multiple Futures titles, but if he manages to add one or two more titles in the next couple of weeks, maybe he will move up to Challengers on a more regular basis again. He's going to be up to about WR 380 on the back of this result, with only 16 points left to defend this year, all in November.

Steven has you estimated as up 103 to WR 754 for the next rankings update after the US Open. That is about where you would be with your points on the current rankings list.
