Weeks 35-36 - US Open main draw (men)

L128: (4) Andy Murray WR 4 v Somdev Devvarman (IND) WR 64 (CH 62 last month)

1st meeting, Devvy is 1-2 in US Open main draws.

Unconfirmed possible opponents later on are F-Loppy in R3, Stani in R4, Sod in the QFs and, of course, Rafa in the SFs - though that may not be a bad draw in this case.

Haase or 'death by' Machado in R2 and delPo another possible QF opponent, apparently.

Haase has been playing well. Stan knocked out Andy last time at us? Soderling and Delpo don't seem to be playing their absolute best. Great to be in Rafa's half (how quickly things change.lol).

I'd describe it as an average draw, one which is much tougher than he's had in recent times.
R1 OK R2 tough R3/R4 decent QF tough again but has avoided Fish at that stage.SF has avoided Nole.

R1 :  Devvarman

R2 :  Hasse or Machado

R3 :  (25) Lopez / Ito    Rosol / Q

R4 :  Possible seeds  :  (14) Wawrinka  or  (24) Chela

QF :  (6) Soderling,  (12) Sinon,  (18) Del Potro  (28) Isner

SF :  (2) Nadal, (6) Ferrer, (12) Alamgro, (16) Youzhny, (17) Melzer, (21) Roddick, (26) Mayer, (30) Ljubicic   ( Nadal's quarter not bad at all ! )

I agree this tougher than Andy's recent very good draws, I think ifrom R2 to the QF all is of is a potentially tricky level, relative to the round, certainly could be better, probably could be worse.

Bad memories last year re Wawrinka, but also annihilated him here playing scintillating tennis in 2008.

Re the QF,  Sod hasn't played competitively since Bastad on clay in mid July and on hard courts since Miaim in late March !   Not sure what's been up with him.  Del Potro still seems some way off his best, having seemingly not pushed on as much as I expected from a very encouraging first few months of the year.  So QF may not be so tough if and when Andy gets there.

Anyway, time Andy was making at least another US Open QF.  It is very surpring that his final appearance in 2008 is the only time he has got past the last 16 here, making this his worst slam in number of times to the QFs or better.

Is anyone else having difficulties with the US Open site in Firefox (version 6)? I can open in IE, which I seldom use, but in Firefox, I just get the banner.

Strange. I have got it fine in Firefox. Maybe the glitch is over?

I can't use IE, it keeps telling me I need Flash Player (which I already have, working fine on Firefox), then when I try to download it again in IE it says there is no version which will work with my 64bit computer. So what have I got in Firefox, then confuse

Glitch is now over. Very odd, that. Nothing yesterday; nothing earlier today; and now perfect. Go figure.

EDIT: No, spoke too soon. Glitch not over. Homepage now fine, but no live scores. Have gone into Safari, which is doing a fine job.

While he should handle Devermann easily remember Andy can lose to anybody if he puts his mind to it, I will not be comfortable ever.
