No subtlety, no variation of pace, just angry thoughtless hitting. A couple of times, Scheepers was completely out of position and Anne missed the open net that presented itself because she just over-hit the shot.
I went to bed after the first set of Anne's match yesterday as it was late and already getting very frustrating to watch. In terms of mental toughness, Anne is so far behind Bally, Heather and Laura at the moment.
On a separate note, today's match marks Laura's 100th senior tennis match (in singles ranking events) and it's nice to have a big match to reach that landmark.
The frustrating thing is that just under a year ago she was playing so well - In her matches in Luxembourg she was playing aggressively, but it was with a strategy and some variation, and scrappy defensive play too... Since her close loss in Melbourne she has gone down in form and confidence. HOWEVER I am still a big fan of Anne and really hope to see her back to her best this Autumn.
I think she has changed her attitude to her tennis which is probably good for her in the long run but occasionally in post match interviews it comes across as she doesn't care at all.
Bally was slightly less fortunate than I thought then. Interesting that she lost a set to Hampton.
What are people's thoughts about a R3 slot for either girl.
Laura always has a chance but I think she'll lose this one. Kuznetsova seems to blow very hot and cold so if Bally can catch her on a cold night you never know!
Sveta is like an improved Bally IMO. Even with her shaky form as of late that might just let Bally in, she is a former champ and former finalist so has class here.
Laura has a good chance tho, very excited to se ehow she gets on.
