Trust the GB girls to get Wozniak back to back when she seems to be back on top form (though, unlike Phil, I would have found it hard to classify it as an 'upset' had Anne won, given that she's the 2nd seed, ranked around 100 places higher and beat Wozniak 2 & 2 a few months ago!)
Bally has specifically denied that she is intending to quite after London 2012 following those recent reports. I'm sure once Heather or Laura overtakes them, the media will be doing what they did when Andy overtook Tim (changing of the guard, time to retire, it's unthinkable that we should have two players in the top 100 at any one time, etc) but hopefully the players themselves will ignore that!
I think to be fair to Wozniak, the earlier encounter this year was played when she was still recovering from injury, it wasn't until the FO that she really started to play much better than that. Also the ranking difference is irrevelent when a player basically only has 3 tournaments counting towards that ranking ( Serena another example of this ). I think you could argue that Wozniak is a solid top 50 player when injury free, so Anne winning for me would have been an upset.
Regarding Bally, I think that article sends out mixed messages, on the one hand yes I agree if everything is going swimmingly i.e injury free and ranking still heading in the right direction I don't think there's any doubt that Bally will continue, but it also seems to hint that if Bally did start to feel her game was failing to progress anymore given the injuries she's had there would be a good chance that she would call it a day.
I knew the 2 & 2 was when Wozniak had just come back from injury but I hadn't realised she still only had 3 counting events - in that case, yes it would have been an upset had Anne won, and it makes it an even more awful draw for the two Brits.
As for Bally, I would have thought for most players in their late 20s, it's a good chance that they will call it a day if they feel like they are failing to progress any more and starting to struggle. I think what she was trying to counter with her tweet earlier this week was a suggestion in some articles that she had implied that she was looking at the London Olympics (which she may not even qualify for, of course) as a very likely end point.

Surely Bally would be almost a certainty for a WC for the Olympics if she needs one.
Do they have wildcards? I thought they had those weird things that spread the net of entry to people from small countries...i remember some guy from El Salvador playing Federer in beijing
Not sure if they have traditional WCs but they must have some way of letting home players play. Considering the GB handball team only formed in 2008 (and lost in pre-qualifying for the European Championships) have been given 1 of 12 spots they would surely let someone who would at least be competitive have one of the places available.
What i was thinking is the Tripartite, which is an IOC thing given to two players from countries with few competitors in all other sports (Baggy got one in 2004). There are then 14 ITF places, of which 8 are automatically from the rankings, and then 6 are decided from a variety of factors - so i guess those 6 ITF places are kind of wildcards but they are decided by a number of factors it seems so only a limited number can go to home players. Anyway, Bally and the no. 2 Brit should be fine to get in it would seem...
Aleksandra Wozniak has duly won the title, beating Jamie Hampton of the USA 6 - 3 6 - 1 in the final.
Her loss of the 2nd set to Laura in R1 was one of only 2 sets she lost all week.
Poor Laura, evidently played pretty well against Wozniak here and then went off to Toronto and missed getting into qualifying for the WTA Premier there.
